Jake Paul holds talks over making MMA debut with leading promotion

Jake Paul has held early talks with MMA promotion Professional Fighters League over making a debut in the cage.

The YouTube star has made a successful career in the boxing ring defeating former UFC star Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley twice in 2021 as he extended his professional record to five victories.

He has been seen training in MMA as he plans to launch a career in the sport after releasing footage of his early kicking technique.

The CEO of PFL Peter Murray has confirmed that despite not supporting everything Paul plans to achieve, they will certainly entertain talks and has commended his global following.

“Hey, listen, you know, if any major athlete that is considering and wants to get into MMA, of course the PFL is in the conversation,” Murray told MMA Junkie.

“What the PFL is about is offering fighters opportunities and fans access to great events. Jake has certainly got a large global following.

"He’s got a strong point of view. He’s a real athlete, and he’s established himself in boxing. And, you know, if he’s looking at MMA as that next opportunity in parallel, perhaps with boxing, of course we’re going to have a conversation.

“It doesn’t mean the PFL supports his detailed manifesto, It’s not about that. What we’re about is providing opportunities for fighters and great events for fans. Simple.”

Paul is planning on making a move to MMA and it was reported that he has already held early talks with the PFL through his advisor and manager Nakisa Bidarian.

The 25-year-old has also been subject to interest by promotion label Bellator with the president Scott Coker keen on making a move happen.

He has also spoken of his plans to train with Russian star Khabib Nurmagomedov and his coach Javier Mendez at the AKA gym in San Jose, California.

However Mendez has admitted that before any decision could be made, a vote would need to be taken which could veto the potential membership of the gym.

He also revealed his admiration for Paul's work despite later admitting there has been no contact from Paul despite his claim.

"It could happen but like anybody you know we have to go through all the coaches and all the fighters that are here and anybody that's a famous athlete like him," he told The Schmo.

"They will go through the routine that everybody does so he would have to get voted by everybody.

"If there's one person in particular that doesn't want him here for that particular reason, he can't be here, so everybody would have to vote."

"First of all, he's never asked. What he's done is he's marketed himself beautifully. I loved the plug he gave us, I think it was a fantastic plug and I think he's a fantastic person."

Paul's social media video which sparked the news that he could be switching to MMA was later criticised by fans who claimed his kicking technique was "poor".
