Jake Paul has torn into Gervonta Davis after cancelling their high-profile boxing fight following accusations against his opponent of battery, false imprisonment and kidnapping by an ex-girlfriend.
The pair were due to face off in an exhibition bout in Miami on November 14, which would have been broadcast globally on Netflix.
But a civil lawsuit was filed against Davis last month, in which it is claimed Davis had threatened to kill ex-partner Courtney Rossel, who alleges Davis attacked her on October 27 and "physically assaulted and choked" her on at least four other occasions. She is seeking damages of $50,000 (£38,000) and a jury trial. Davis has not responded to the allegations.
Paul's Most Valuable Promotions have now decided to cancel the bout, with chief executive Nakisa Bidarian confirming plans for Paul to headline another event for Netflix before the end of the year.
"Our team has worked closely with all parties to navigate this situation responsibly," Bidarian said in a statement. "While we will not be moving forward with this event, our plan still remains for Jake Paul to headline an event on Netflix in 2025.
"Details regarding a new date, location, Jake’s opponent, and additional bouts will be shared as soon as they are finalised."
Paul had kept quiet since the allegations first broke, but posted his thoughts on social media following confirmation of their cancelled bout.
“Working with him is an absolute nightmare,” Paul wrote on social media. “I’m so sorry to everyone involved. Mostly to the undercard fighters, to my team at MVP and to my team who worked so hard prepping for this fight.”
Standard Sport has contacted Davis’ representatives for comment.
