Jake Mulraney on headphone row as Hearts star explains his controversial warm-up

Hearts winger Jake Mulraney looks to play down the controversy over his headphones, insisting he didn't realise he was wearing them during his warm-up.

Ahead of the Boxing Day derby with Edinburgh rivals Hibs the Irishman was spotted coming out for his warm-up wearing Apple Airpods.

That drew a scathing reaction from Sky pundit Kris Boyd who described it as "a disgrace".

Today the Hearts man has looked to calm the situation by explaining himself on Instagram.

Mulraney wrote: "I went from checking set pieces straight into the toilets (by this time the music was off), heard the shout that we’re going out and ran straight from the toilets to the tunnel not knowing I’d forgotten to take them out.

“Realised 20 seconds after I’d gone out they were still in and ran straight back in to take them out.

"I understand it looks bad but I’d never do that intentionally."

Former Kilmarnock and Rangers striker Boyd was scathing in his criticism at the time, insisting it was indicative of the situation at Tynecastle.

He said: "It sums up Hearts for me right now.

"You listen to a lot of the older or ex-players and managers speaking about guys walking into stadiums with the big beats headphones and everything.

"But that is a disgrace and I don't care what anybody says."

Record Sport revealed this week that Mulraney is a target for MLS side Atlanta United.
