Jake Hyland has left Drogheda United to focus on his young family and on work.
Midfielder Hyland, 26, joined the Boynesiders ahead of the 2016 season after previously playing for Bohemians between 2013 and 2015.
After gaining promotion with the club in his first season, he was named club captain in 2018 and helped Drogheda to return to the top flight for a second time, this time as champions, in 2020.
In total, Hyland made 152 appearances across six seasons for Drogheda, scoring 10 goals - including a crucial brace against Cabinteely to help secure promotion just over 12 months ago - and his experience will be missed by new Boynesiders boss Kevin Doherty.
“I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone involved at the club, from the staff to the players to the fans," Hyland said.
"I’ve spent the last six seasons here and we’ve enjoyed some really good memories including two promotions.
“It was an absolute honour to captain the club for the last four years. Stepping back this season was not an easy decision, but the club is most definitely on the up and I wish Kev and the lads the very best of luck this coming season."
In a statement, the club paid tribute to Hyland's efforts.
"All at Drogheda United thank Jake for everything he has done for the club over the last six seasons and wish him the very best for the future," read the statement.
