Jake Hastie in Rangers return as Ian McCall sends forgotten winger back to Ibrox after 'unfortunate' spell

Disappointed Partick Thistle boss Ian McCall admits Jake Hastie 's move to Firhill didn't work out as he returns to Rangers.

The 22-year-old spent a tough six months at the Championship playoff hopefuls after penning loan with the club.

Hastie has mainly appeared off the bench for McCall's side with his last appearance coming in October 30 against Dunfermline.

He was left out of the squad completely for the clash with Hamilton and his time in Maryhill has been ended.

The Jags had the option to extend the loan agreement but it has been cut short.

Hastie is under contract at Ibrox until the end of next season and will hope to catch the eye of boss Gio van Bronckhorst having made just two first-team appearances for the club since his 2019 arrival.

Before his move to Partick Thistle, Hastie was relegated to the Rangers Colts side in the Lowland League.

After Hastie's exit, McCall said: “After speaking to Jake we came to the decision that it was best for him to go back to Rangers.

"He’s not had the game time that he or I would have liked for him during his time at Firhill which is unfortunate because I do think he’s a player with a lot quality.

"Unfortunately, the team has been in good form which has meant he’s had to come off the bench and it’s always difficult to make an impact that way.

“He’s a player with a plenty of quality and ability who I’m sure still has a great future in the game and we wish him all the best for that future.”
