Jake Hastie gets Rotherham career off to a flier as Rangers loanee makes debut in South Yorkshire derby

Rangers summer signing Jake Hastie has had the perfect start to his loan spell at Rotherham.

The former Motherwell winger joined the Millers on deadline day on a season long loan deal to get him out and playing first team football.

Hastie was down the pecking order at Rangers and that was to be furthered with the signing of Ryan Kent for £7million from Liverpool.

So Hastie took the decision to head south and get a regular game and it has started brightly for him as he grabbed a goal.

Rotherham were up against Doncaster in the South Yorkshire derby at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The 20-year-old started in his usual wide position sporting the No.23 shirt.

And Hastie was involved throughout. In the early stages he was involved in everything with dangerous deliveries from set pieces.

He then opened the scoring on 37 minutes when his wicked free kick beat everyone in the box and found it's way in at the back post.

Another tweet by Rotherham showed how well the first half was going as it said: "Hastie is absolutely on fire at the moment. He once again gets position on the left and steps beyond his man to deliver a perfect cross to the back post which is headed wide by Wiles."

Steven Gerrard will be delighted with how his loan spell has started in England's League One.

Former Aberdeen defender Clark Robertson is also in the starting line up for the Millers.
