Jake Fromm says freshman WR could be Georgia’s next AJ Green

The 2019-2020 UGA football season comes off to many as a “re-build year” after losing so many skill players to the NFL Draft. Jake Fromm thinks different.

Junior quarterback Fromm has lost many of his weapons this year, including Mecole Hardman Jr., Riley Ridley, Terry Godwin, Elijah Holyfield and JJ Holloman. You would think there would be a major vacancy in the receiving core after losing their top three receivers, but Fromm thinks different.

Enter George Pickens. Pickens is a freshman five star receiver out of Hoover, Alabama who has been very impressive. Pickens is a 6’4″, 190 lb receiver and the number four recruited receiver out of this year’ freshman class.

Pickens is a strong, versatile and athletic receiver who shows great promise to be a star in the SEC.  He has a big frame and has great yards after the catch ability, which will mesh perfectly in Fromm’s game managing style of play.

Prior to SEC media days, Jake Fromm told SEC sports analyst Brad Nessler “Pickens could be the next A.J. Green” {6:00 – 6:37}.  Nessler, on 92.9 The Game Radio said Fromm brought this up when they were discussing the upcoming challenges of a thin receiving core and tough upcoming schedule.  He also talked about Fromm in the NFL Draft conversation, as opposed to where he was his Freshman year.

From the looks of it, the Bulldogs will have to replace just about their entire receiving core, but it sounds like it’s time for the next man up, which doesn’t seem to disappoint for Dawgs fans much.
