Jake Fromm could become 2nd Georgia QB ever to do this vs Florida

If Jake Fromm can do it, he would become only the second quarterback in Georgia football history to go undefeated in four starts against Florida.

To find the other, you’d have to go back to 1948, when John Rauch won his fourth consecutive game against the Gators. He started and won as a true freshman in 1945.

Rauch would later play in the NFL before becoming head coach of the Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders, but his coaching career started at Florida as their quarterbacks coach, strangely enough.

Only three other Bulldog quarterbacks have started four games against Florida: Aaron Murray, who went 3-1 against the Gators, David Greene, who finished 1-3, and Eric Zeier, who was winless against Steve Spurrier’s powerhouse Florida teams of the 1990’s.

Of course, for Fromm the opportunity to join the elite company of John Rauch is contingent upon whether he declares for the NFL draft or not. Personally I think that’s unlikely, so then, Fromm has to actually go out and beat Florida for a fourth time.

Should Fromm stay, he’ll at the very least be the sixth quarterback to start all four years at Georgia. Previously unmentioned was Kid Woodruff, who played in an era during which Georgia and Florida did not meet. Woodruff later served as the Bulldogs’ head coach from 1923-1927. He went 2-0 against the Gators as a coach, which certainly counts for something.

Should he declare for the draft however, Fromm would still be in pretty elite company: Buck Belue is currently the only three-year starter to go undefeated against the Gators.

We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it, so for now, let’s enjoy another big win.
