Jake Fromm admits saying 'only elite white people' should have guns

Bills rookie quarterback Jake Fromm confirmed that the screenshots of him sending racist text messages were real on Thursday and apologized for his use of the phrase "elite white people."

Fromm's apology did not mention the context in which he said that "only elite white people" should be able to afford guns.

"Guns are good ... just make them very expensive so only elite white people can get them haha," he said in the texts.

"I addressed my teammates and coaches in a team meeting today and I hope they see this incident is not representative of the person I am," Fromm said Thursday.

"We don't condone what he said," the Bills said in a statement. "Jake was honest and forthcoming to us about the text exchange."

His apology did include that he doesn't consider himself to be "an elite white person."

Fromm led Georgia to the national championship game his freshman year, but regressed slightly over the next two years of college, and slid to the Bills in the fifth round of this year's draft. In Buffalo, he'll back up Josh Allen, who apologized for tweeting the n-word as a teenager before he was drafted in 2018.
