Hibs are set to sign Jake Doyle-Hayes after hijacking Premiership rivals Dundee United’s move for the Irish playmaker.
The 22-year-old had looked certain to link-up with Tam Courts at Tannadice after his contract at St Mirren ran out.
But United sensationally pulled the plug on a move on Wednesday with the player delaying on a final decision.
And that opened the way for Jack Ross and Hibs to step in with the Easter Road club in talks with the player and expected to conclude a deal soon.
Doyle-Hayes was a revelation for the Buddies after signing a short term deal from Aston Villa in November last year.
The midfielder made a total of 24 appearances for Jim Goodwin’s side and helped the reach the Betfred Cup Final.
St Mirren had offered the youngster a new deal.
But he looks set to join Hibs as the Easter Road club aim to build on last season’s third place finish.
