Jak Alnwick to seal St Mirren move as former Rangers goalkeeper agrees two-year deal

St Mirren have agreed a deal to sign Jak Alnwick on a two-year-contract.

The Buddies have landed the keeper after he was released by Rangers in the summer.

The 27-year-old will take over the No 1 slot at the Saints after Vaclav Hladky left on freedom of contract.

Alnwick spent last season on loan at Blackpool and had an offer to remain there but has decided to return for another crack at the Premiership.

Saints boss Jim Goodwin (SNS Group)

St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin had also been interested in Craig Gordon and made him an offer but it was well short of what the player was looking for.

Gordon also has other options but looks set to re-sign for Hearts under his old teammate Robbie Neilson.

Alnwick joined Rangers from Port Vale in 2017 but only made a handful of appearances and also had another loan spell at Scunthorpe two seasons ago.

The former England youth keeper previously started his career at Newcastle United.

He becomes Goodwin’s second capture of the season after he signed Richard Tait following his release from Motherwell.
