MUMBAI: Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed a century (106, 99b, 12x4, 4x6), while his fellow opener and skipper Armaan Jaffer scored 91 (98b, 11x4, 2x6) as Mumbai outplayed Jharkhand by 65 runs in their opening game of the BCCI's Men's Under-25 State A Trophy at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Monday.
After Jaiswal and Jaffer shared a massive 188-run run stand in 181 balls for the opening wicket, Sairaj Patil (66, 40b, 5x4, 4x6) and Pragnesh Kanpillewar (59, 52b, 7x4, 1x6) scored half-centuries as Mumbai made 340 for six in 50 overs. In reply, Jharkhand finished at 275 for eight.
Jaiswal finding his touch should be good news for the Mumbai senior team, as the youngster, who did well for the Rajasthan Royals in this IPL, had managed to get merely 37 runs in five games @9.25 in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
"I'm glad that all the four boys picked from the senior team did well in this game. It's good to see Yashasvi get back into form. Armaan and Sairaj are good players who needed match practice, since they could not get to play games in Mushtaq Ali, and Dafedar picked wickets too," Mumbai chief selector Salil Ankola told TOI.
Placed in Elite Group C of the One-day tournament, Mumbai now play Maharashtra on Tuesday. With heavy rains in Bangalore having washed out their initial games, which were supposed to start from November 19, the teams have been forced to play five one-dayers in five days in this group.
