Jaipur: Walled City residents fall sick after drinking contaminated water

JAIPUR: Water woes continue for residents of Walled City, who have been receiving polluted water in their localities. In Mahawataan ka Mohallah under ward 86, people are complaining of getting dirty water for the first 10 minutes.

Abdul Salim, a resident of the colony, said the situation has been the same for the last 15 days and people are facing severe problems. “In the first 10 minutes, the water is dirty. Then clean water comes but it contains a foul smell. This has been going on for the last 10 days and despite complaints to the PHED, nothing has been sorted out,” said Salim.

He also said due to consumption of polluted water, many residents are facing health issues. Loose motions and vomiting are common. “Many residents do not check the quality of water being supplied every morning and directly put the pipe in the underground tank. It is creating problems and PHED should take action against it,” said Salim.

PHED executive engineer Sanjay Sharma said they will look into the issue.

In another colony, Achar Walon ki Gali, Paharganj, the entire colony is supplied water through boring which stops due to malfunction every 15 days. Phurkaan Pathan, a resident of the area said, “We are not connected with the Bisalpur line and only boring water is supplied. Every 15 days there is some problem with the boring supply and we have to call the officials. We want to get rid of this problem and want a direct line connection.”

Moreover, boring water is not supplied with the right pressure as many people use boosters. PHED has launched many campaigns to curb the booster problem but it prevails and in summers, water is not supplied in adequate speed.
