Jaipur: Speeding bus kills 3 in Bassi

JAIPUR: A speeding bus mowed down three people travelling on a bike on Agra highway under Bassi police station area of the city on Thursday.

Bassi SHO Bhupendra Singh said the victims were idenitfied as Pankaj Bairwa (20), Heera Lal Bairwa (28) and Ajay Bairwa (18). Police said three of them were cousins.

The trio was travelling on a bike and returning to their home near Tunga in the city after attending a wedding in Dausa district.

The accident took shortly after noon near Manoharpur village when a speeding roadways bus rammed into their bike. Locals told police that the bus dragged the bike for about 20 metres on the road.

Officials said the bike was barely recognizable because it was reduced by half.

“It was a very horrifying accident, the victims were taken to a hospital where doctors declared brought dead,” said an official.

A large number of locals gathered around the scene even as the driver managed to flee in the commotion.

Police force in large numbers was deployed on the road after traffic came to a grinding halt after the accident.

As per the police, the protestors demanded an immediate arrest of the driver. They alleged that the driver was speeding on the road even though it was packed with vehicles.

The officials pacified the families and the locals after which bodies were taken to the mortuary so that a post-mortem could be conducted.
