JAIPUR: A medical store owner, who handed over Rs 5 lakh to two persons hoping to receive US $22,000, returned home with a bag full of trash.
SHO Sanjay Circle Devendra Kumar told TOI that the two accused told the chemist that their boss had died and gave them US dollars worth Rs 16 lakh in Indian currency.
The chemist immediately agreed to pay Rs 5 lakh for the US dollars worth Rs 16 lakh. “He went to meet the two accused outside a hospital where they showed him two US dollars. They took the money and left the scene,” Kumar said.
The chemist returned to his Vaishali Nagar house with a bag he hoped contained dollars. When he opened the bag, he found papers and some trash. There was no sign of any foregin currency.
Shocked and devastated, he filed an FIR at the Sanjay Circle police station.
“The two accused tricked the complainant into believing that the they were two honest hardworking men who had nothing do as their boss had passed away before giving them ample amount of cash,” he said.
Police said efforts are being made to track down the two accused involved in the crime. Police said they have asked the complainant to hand over the bag in which the two accused had promised to keep US dollars.
“The complainant thought that he was getting a good deal and did not check the background of the two accused. They told him that they had received an inheritance of rich their boss and wanted to trade foreign currency for Indian rupees,” the official said, adding CCTVs are being examined to identify the two accused.
