JAIPUR: The city police on Thursday arrested a 30-year-old man from Bhatta Basti and recovered several child pornography clips from his phone. The police have identified the accused as Akram Sheikh.
The police said that they had received an alert from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) about the suspect living in the city’s Bhatta Basti, suspected to be involved in watching illegal child pornography online. The police sources said they had also received the mobile number of the accused. The police then sent teams to track the accused’s locations in the city, and finally arrested him. The preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly uploaded some of the illegal video clips on a social media website.
“We immediately seized his mobile phone and found multiple clips prohibited video clippings. We suspect that the accused had been regularly watching the child pornography videos for a long time. The number of clips indicates the same,” said an official, adding that they are investigating the case including examining the accused’s mobile phone for more information. The police said there are clear directions that suspects involved in illegal pornography cases should be immediately apprehended and stern action ought to be taken against them.
“This is one of the major such cases busted by law enforcement agencies in recent times. We are also checking how many clips he had uploaded recently,” said the official adding that the NCRB had first received a tip-off about the accused.
