JAIPUR: About 10 councillors of Murlipura zone staged a protest in front of the zone office against the neglect and lethargic attitude of officials due to which civic issues in their wards are not resolved.
The councillors said that in the last two months, work related to the cleanliness, sewerage, road lights and other public work of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation is being neglected by the authorities.
Dinesh Kanwat, a councillor who took part in the protest, said, “Sewer line is jammed in the ward for the last several months. Sewer water is flowing outside the houses of the people and sometimes it gets mixed with drinking water supply. After several complaints to the officials of the zone and the contractor concerned in this regard, nothing was received except assurance.”
Another councillor Bubulal Sharma said that the contractors of BVG company neither pick up the garbage on time and when they arrive in the wards, there is no sound on the hoppers.
“Even the depots do not get cleaned for two weeks. The Road lights are not working in more than two dozen places in each ward. We were forced to stage this demonstration else no one listens to us,” said Sharma.
Murlipura zone’s deputy commissioner Santosh Goyal listened to the problems of the councillors at and took a memorandum of their demands while assuring them that their demands will be resolved within five days.
“We have blacklisted the sewerage cleaning contractor for not working efficiently. Now we are trying to get some alternative sources for sewer cleaning. We have asked to get vehicles from the corporation and very soon it will be provided,” said Goyal.
The councillors have told the deputy commissioner of the zone that if the arrangements are not rectified by the corporation in the next five days, they will stage a sit-in at the headquarters of the municipal corporation along with the people of their respective wards.
