Jailed Scots comic's ex-wife says he was 'obsessed' with rapist Peter Tobin

The ex-wife of John David McDade burst into tears as his sentence was read out in court yesterday.

The comedian was convicted in 2013 of assaulting Katie, who asked us to withhold her surname, and two other women.

Katie said: “I gave evidence in court in 2013 because I didn’t want any other woman to go through this.

“When all he got then was community service, it felt like it had all been for nothing. At last I feel we have some justice.”

McDade was convicted of attacking Katie, who he married in 2004, on various occasions between May 2005 and November 2007.

In October 2006, he tied her up and locked her in an upstairs cupboard when she called police to their home after he attacked her following an argument.

Katie, 33, said: “He let them in and they were downstairs talking to him as I was upstairs tied up. He told the police I was out and they left.”

The barmaid, who divorced McDade in 2007, said she built up the courage to leave him to protect their baby son.

McDade was also convicted during that trial of assaulting Caroline, who also wanted her surname to be withheld, between January 2011 and June 2011.

The nurse, 38, who met McDade through dating site Plenty of Fish, said: “He is a dangerous predator.

“I’m relieved that he is finally going to prison but I’m annoyed that he didn’t get a harsher punishment for what he did to us. He should have been stopped in 2013.”

She said McDade was “obsessed with serial killer and rapist Peter Tobin”, adding: “He would threaten me and tell me he would bury me like Tobin’s victim Angelika Kluk.”
