Jailed muscleman Vijay Mishra, son booked under Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act

VARANASI: The jailed muscleman politician and former MLA from Gyanpur Vijay Mishra and seven others including his son Vishnu Mishra were booked under Uttar Pradesh Gangster and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act 1986 by Bhadohi police on Wednesday.

According to Bhadohi SP, Dr. Anil Kumar, the Gopiganj police took action against Mishra, the gang leader, and his associates including his son Vishnu Mishra, Vikas Mishra alia Jyoti, Girdhari Pathak, Hanuman Sevak Pandey, Manish Mishra, Satish Mishra, and Suresh Kesarwani. In view of the criminal history and activities of the gang, they were listed as inter-district gang (D-12), he said.

Ahead of the assembly polls the Supreme Court had rejected his bail plea in January this year. A fresh case was lodged on January 21 against his 10 family members, including son Vishnu and daughters for not appearing before the court or submitting their reply after notice of property attachment was issued against them in a case of threatening a woman for withdrawing gang rape case she had lodged against Mishra and 13 others in October 2020. Mishra's two nephews have already been arrested in this case.

Mishra has over 70 criminal cases in his name and 10 cases are being heard in MP/MLA court. He had proved his stronghold on Gyanpur assembly seat even after denial of Samajwadi Party ticket in 2017 assembly election.

He had won Gyanpur seat for three consecutive times, including 2012 election which he contested from jail. The Aurai police had also booked him under Goonda Act on July 18, 2020 for issuing threat to a contractor, who got the contract of realising toll at a toll plaza on National Highway-2 in Aurai area. Police started searching for him when Mishra's relative Krishna Kanth Tiwari lodged an FIR on August 8, 2020 against him, his wife and son with Gopiganj police alleging that the trio forcibly got his property registered in their names. Mishra was arrested in a dramatic style in Madhya Pradesh on August 14, 2020 and since then he is in jail while his wife Ramlali and Vishnu are absconding. On September 19, 2020 Tiwari's son and prime witness in this case Surya lodged another FIR with Gopiganj police against Mishra's daughter Sima Mishra, grandson Vikas Mishra, Girdhari Pathak and four others for threatening him.
