Jailed in Liverpool: Bingo thieves, vile OAP and Lego cocaine gang

These are the faces of 12 people locked up for crimes linked to Merseyside this past week.

One judge had to sentence two bingo cashiers who stole more than £180,000 from a bingo club that could have collapsed as a result of their greed.

Courts heard about twisted paedophiles including a monster who wanted to rape a two-year-old child.

One judge had to sentence a vile OAP who hurled boiling water over female hospital staff during a series of attacks on women.

They dealt with dopey crooks including a burglar who left his blood smeared around a famous pub and a drug courier who didn't realise that not wearing a mask might arouse suspicion on a train.

Meanwhile, EncroChat drug dealers brought to justice included two former Royal Marines who were importing cocaine to Merseyside in Lego boxes - one of which was mistakenly given to a little boy as a birthday present.

Here is an overview of some of the most serious cases to have concluded this past week.

Samuel Lewis

EncroChat user Samuel Lewis stockpiled drugs as he worried about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on his business.

Lewis, who used the handle "KeySilver", was "clearly concerned about the prices of the market" during the pandemic as messages revealed he was "wheeling and dealing" cocaine, cannabis and ketamine between March and June 2020.

In discussions with another user of the encrypted phone network hacked last year, the 30-year-old worried that it would be "dry" due to the impact of the first lockdown and so wanted to grab more "polls" - cannabis resin.

Police raided his home in Mardale Road, Huyton on April 8 this year, at which point his dad asked: "Is this because of those Encro phones?"

Officers found blocks of amphetamine, two sets of scales and cash.

Lewis admitted conspiring to supply cocaine, ketamine and cannabis and possessing amphetamine with intent to supply.

He was jailed for 12 years.

Cheryl Shackley

Cheryl Shackley stole £51,000 from the letting agency she worked for in Formby.

The 44-year-old funnelled huge amounts out of Art History Ltd over a two-year period because she claimed she was "underpaid".

When arrested, she even tried to blame the owner Kevin O'Hare, by making false allegations that money transferred to her account was moved by him in a bid to avoid paying taxes.

The baseless claims had to be investigated by police, causing delays during which Mr O'Hare became seriously ill and feared he would die before Shackley faced justice.

The deceitful employee's scam, from 2016 to 2018, cut into Mr O'Hare's attempts to save for lifelong care for his son.

Shackley, of Delph Drive, Burscough, who admitted three counts of theft by employee, was jailed for two and a half years.

Stephen Shaw

Stephen Shaw, 66, of Telford Close, Higher Hurdsfield, Macclesfield (Liverpool Echo)

Stephen Shaw hurled boiling water over female hospital staff then shouted "I'd p***ed in that cup earlier".

The "vile" pensioner scalded two victims in a shocking attack, before taunting: "Do you like having my p*** all over you?"

Shaw, 66, terrorised four women in total when on a mental health ward at Hollins Park Hospital in Warrington.

He was detained under the Mental Health Act at the Winwick facility between June 27 and August 18, 2020.

However, a clinical psychologist found Shaw had the capacity to understand and control his actions, he was discharged from the hospital with no formal mental health diagnosis, and staff believed his actions were behavioural and not down to any mental health condition.

Shaw, of Telford Close, Higher Hurdsfield, Macclesfield, admitted four counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker.

He was jailed for 40 weeks - around nine months.

Jack Jones, Issac Rasmussen and Paul Jones

Jack Jones, 28, of Hey Park, Huyton (Liverpool Echo)

Two former Royal Marines imported cocaine to Merseyside in children's Lego boxes using the delivery service DPD.

Jack Jones hatched an international plot involving hiding various drugs inside toy boxes with the help of Issac Rasmussen.

But the ex commandos' plan backfired when one box was inadvertently taken as a present for a little boy's birthday party.

His mum opened the Duplo box with a picture of a fire engine for him to play with, only to find a kilo of 82% pure cocaine.

Isaac Rasmussen, 28, of Heath Road, Widnes (Liverpool Echo)

Jack Jones used EncroChat phones with the handles "IntimateMode" and "FeralWhale", before "IntimateMode" was given to Rasmussen.

He had a Dutch contact, "NetIce", who posted cocaine, heroin, MDMA and cannabis from Holland, which the gang supplied across the UK.

The vacuum sealed packages were posted to addresses linked to Rasmussen and co-conspirator Paul Jones, 43, in Huyton and Whiston, including Paul Jones' mum's house.

All three men admitted conspiring to import and supply cocaine.

Paul Jones, 43, of Lincombe Road, Huyton (Liverpool Echo)

Jack Jones, formerly of Linden Drive, Huyton, now of Hey Park, Huyton, also admitted conspiring to supply heroin, MDMA and cannabis, to import cannabis, and to convert criminal property.

He was jailed for 16 and a half years.

Rasmussen, of Heath Road, Widnes, who also had an address in Long Hey, Whiston, also admitted conspiring to import cannabis.

He was jailed for 10 years.

Paul Jones, of Lincombe Road, Huyton, also admitted possessing cannabis and criminal property.

He was jailed for seven and a half years.

Matthew Parr

Matthew Parr asked a dad if he could rape his two-year-old daughter in a series of sickening messages.

The paedophile said he also wanted to rape the man's nine-year-old daughter after being told she was autistic.

The 46-year-old didn't realise he was actually speaking to an undercover police officer when he asked "would it be like a foursome?"

He even sent the police officer a child rape video involving a toddler during the chats, on the website Wickr, from March to June 2020.

Parr had a vile stash involving 29 images of child rape, 70 other indecent images of children and two images of extreme pornography.

The pervert, of Old Wargrave Road, Newton-Le-Willows, admitted three counts of downloading, one count of possessing and three counts of distributing indecent images of children.

He also admitted two counts of arranging the commision of a child sex offence - in relation to the two fictitious children - and possessing extreme porn.

Parr was jailed for five years.

Stephen McCouid

Stephen McCouid, 38, of Blackburne Place in the Georgian Quarter (Liverpool Echo)

Stephen McCouid burgled Ma Egerton's Stage Door but left his blood smeared around the famous pub.

The 38-year-old has 51 previous convictions for a staggering 104 offences, including robbery, burglary and thefts.

He was once jailed for 10 years after bungled raids when he pretended a vacuum cleaner attachment was a shotgun.

McCouid struck at the historic venue in Pudsey Street on October 8 last year, when worker Nicholas Ho was asleep upstairs.

He and another unknown intruder - who entered the living quarters - were told to get out and left after ransacking the pub.

But blood was left, from which McCouid's DNA was identified, and he admitted burglary of a commercial premises.

McCouid, of Blackburne Place in the Georgian Quarter, was jailed for 16 months.

Michael Walker

Michael Walker, 35, of Deeley Close, Edge Hill (Liverpool Echo)

Michael Walker spat the remains of a sandwich in a police officer's face after an all night bender.

The 35-year-old injured his victim's shoulder by pulling away from him as he was placed in handcuffs.

The convicted robber then showered the officer in saliva and bits of his breakfast in a "despicable" attack.

Police had been called to reports of a man with an axe in Molyneux Road, Kensington at around 8.45am on November 30, 2020.

Walker was arrested at the scene but became abusive while he was being put in handcuffs and called the officer a "muppet".

He threatened to smash the officer in the nose then pulled away from him, inflicting a suspected shoulder tear, and spat at him.

Walker, of Deeley Close, Edge Hill, admitted assault by beating of an emergency worker and was jailed for four months.

Paul Green

Paul Green was caught transporting drugs from Liverpool to Aberdeen on the railway (BTP)

Paul Green was caught transporting £60,000 of Class A drugs on a train when police spotted he wasn't wearing a mask.

The dopey crook failed at the first hurdle when plain clothed officers at Lime Street station saw him without the mandatory face covering.

He was seen later that morning on January 13 this year getting off a train at Wigan station and challenged about not having a mask.

The 38-year-old claimed he was travelling from Liverpool to Wigan, before he confessed that he was actually travelling to Aberdeen.

Green continued to be uncooperative and was searched, which revealed a large quantity of drugs and two mobile phones.

He was found to have 544g of heroin and 101g of crack cocaine, with an estimated street value of more than £60,000.

Green, of Prince Albert Mews, Liverpool city centre, admitted possessing heroin and cocaine with intent to supply.

He was jailed for three years and four months.

Jeanette Warrilow and Jorun Chang

Jeanette Warrilow and Jorun Chang stole more than £183,000 from a bingo club but were caught while on holiday together.

Bingo cashiers Warrilow, 59, and Chang, 58, managed to cover up a four-year scam at Pavilion Bingo Club, aka 'The Pivvy', in Toxteth.

They put colleagues' jobs at risk by each stealing more than £20,000 a year, when the company was running at a loss.

But the "greedy" mums were busted when a manager spotted takings were higher than usual after the two friends went away.

Chang, of Queens Road, Everton, and Warrilow, of Robarts Road, Anfield, had worked for Pavilion for more than two decades.

When they were rumbled in September 2016 the company discovered Warrilow had stolen £83,500 and Chang took £99,900.

Both women admitted theft by employee after they were finally charged by the Crown Prosecution Service in December 2020.

Warrilow was jailed for 12 months and Chang was jailed for 16 months.
