Jail sentence for New York Times researcher

A New York Times researcher in China has been sentenced to three years in jail on a charge of fraud. Zhao Yan, 44, who was detained in 2004, was cleared of more serious charges involving the disclosure of state secrets. The case is believed to stem from a NYT report about plans by the then-Chinese leader Jiang Zemin to relinquish his post as head of the military. The Communist Party treats such information as secret. (Via ABC News)
