Jail for Larkhall man who withheld medical treatment from malnourished dog

A Larkhall man who failed to provide a dog with enough food and medical treatment was jailed for three months at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

Bryan Smythe, 31, of Mason Street, was also banned from keeping a dog for two years.

He admitted neglecting the animal between April 1 this year and June 4.

The dog was found to be malnourished and injuries to its paws had not been treated.

A charge alleging that Smythe walked the dog excessively and dragged it repeatedly by the collar, causing injuries to its paws, was dropped.

Smythe further admitted stealing cables from Asda in Hamilton on June 4 and shouting abuse and threats at police officers that day.
