JAIL CHIEF SON'S KILL BID RAP

THE son of a former prison governor is under arrest in Spain over the attempted murder of a young woman.

A woman was badly cut when she was hit in the face with an ashtray and strangled with the cord of an electric heater.

Her attacker, who she is believed to have met in a bar the night before, flew into a violent rage during a row after spending the evening in her flat.

Neighbours disturbed the attacker when they investigated the noise from her flat.

Justin West, 28, whose father was a junior governor at Parkhurst and Albany on the Isle of Wight, was arrested.

The woman is in hospital in Malaga.

Her father Keith, 56, who lives in Malaga, said: "If it hadn't been for the neighbours she wouldn't be with us. She suffered terrible injuries and we are worried about her throat.

"She is a fantastic singer so we are just hoping she will be OK."
