Jai McDowall among the lineup for Kilmarnock's Christmas lights switch-on

The festive season will kick-off with a sprinkling of stardust in Kilmarnock.

For Ayrshire singer-songwriter Jai McDowall will be on hand to help transform the town centre into a winter wonderland at Killie’s annual Christmas lights switch-on.

With Christmas a little more than a few weeks away, final preparations are being put in place for Kilmarnock’s Christmas lights gathering.

East Ayrshire Leisure has announced the popular event will take place on Sunday, November 24.

And it promises to be an afternoon of festive family fun with street performances, markets, competitions – and a visit from Britain’s Got Talent champion Jai.

The 33-year-old from Tarbolton, South Ayrshire won the fifth series of the reality TV show eight years ago and also performed at the Royal Variety Performance in 2011.

One lucky winner could also be in with a chance of bagging an all-inclusive fairytale trip to Lapland with Stewart Travel.

The cast of the town’s Cinderella panto will also be in attendance for photo opportunities along with Kilmarnock Football Club Cheerleaders, Centrestage Gospel and Soul Choir and East Ayrshire Youth Theatre.

West FM radio presenter Zoe Kelly will take care of hosting duties from the main stage where Jai will perform alongside The Kilted Tenors, Drums n Roses and many more.

The community stage on Bank Street will feature: Loanhead Primary School, Jam Street School of Dance, Crosshouse Primary, EMI V, Grange Academy, Fiona Scott School of Dance, Whatriggs Primary, Taylor Buntain, Auchinleck High and Take A Bow stage school.

Players from Kilmarnock Football Club will also be among the attractions and fans can see them join East Ayrshire Council Provost Jim Todd for the lights switch-on itself.

Next month’s event will take place from 2pm to 5.30pm.
