Jai Field crushing injury blow as Wigan Warriors star tears hamstring

Jai Field will miss the next six weeks after tearing his hamstring on his Wigan Warriors debut.

The Australian, making his first appearance for the club since completing a move from Parramatta Eels, hobbled off 19 minutes into his debut after chasing down a loose ball.

Replays showed him gruesomely hyperextend his leg, with immediate concerns surrounding his hamstring.

Adrian Lam confirmed the news following the Warriors' narrow 20-18 victory over newly promoted Leigh.

"It's up to six weeks out, six weeks plus depending on the severity of it which we'll find out as soon as we can.

"I asked him at the start of the week if he could play out of position on the wing. He accepted that to get his debut and I'm very thankful for that. We didn't get to see the best of him.

"It was an opportunity for him to pick that up and show his speed early on but it just, it was uncoordinated in the sense the ball was bouncing and the way he picked it up and unfortunately that was what got the hamstring torn."

Field's absence adds to his selection woes in the outside backs.

"We'll deal with it tomorrow. We'll be OK, we've got a few injuries at the moment and I don't want to focus on the injuries we've got but players that are playing."
