Jahm Najafi net worth compared to Chelsea and Arsenal owners amid Tottenham takeover talk

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly being considered as a potential target for a takeover by MSP Sports Capital.

MSP is headed up by Iranian-American businessman Jahm Najafi, who is a minority owner of the Phoenix Suns NBA side and also has a financial interest in the McLaren F1 team. The Financial Times report that MSP are looking to buy 70 per cent of Spurs with Abu Dhabi-based Investors providing the rest of the cash to buy the club from current owners Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy.

News of a potential takeover of Spurs comes amid potential sales of Liverpool and Manchester United, who are both on the market, and after the £4.25 billion buy-out of Chelsea by Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Capital consortium. Chairman Daniel Levy has overseen Tottenham's recent move into their brand new stadium and the club returned to the Champions League under Antonio Conte last season.

However, Spurs have not won a trophy since 2008 and their market value is considerably less than United or Liverpool but there is enormous potential in the club. Najafi is reportedly worth around £2.9bn and the Mirror claim that any deal to buy Spurs would be worth just over £3bn.

It is said that Najafi would be working alongside a consortium of investors with a formal bid only weeks away. Compared with London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, Najafi and MSP Sports Capital would be major players in the Premier League if they secure a £3bn takeover.

It is estimated that Chelsea's owners are worth a collective £13bn while Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke's fortune stands at around £10.8bn. Almost every Premier League club is owned by a billionaire with only Nottingham Forest and Brentford not.

Indeed, the richest club in the top flight and almost certainly the world is Newcastle United, who are majority owned by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.
