Jacksonville had a bye in Week 7 to enjoy its emotional win over the Miami Dolphins in London, which ended the longest losing streak in football since 1977. The Jaguars are certainly showing signs of progress, but now they hit the road yet again, and this time, they’ll be facing a hostile environment in Seattle’s “12th man.”
The Seahawks are a team that has struggled to this point in the season, as well. They sit at just 2-5, and with Russell Wilson on injured reserve, the team has had to turn to Geno Smith, whose play has been inconsistent at best.
They’re 0-3 in the games in which Smith has had to play the majority of the reps, and Jacksonville will look to get a bit of a win streak going.
The Seahawks could also be down several key skill-position players on offense. Neither receiver DK Metcalf (foot) or running back Alex Collins (groin) practiced on Thursday. Metcalf was a full participant on Wednesday, while Collins was limited.
It could be a good matchup for Trevor Lawrence, who has had a bit of an up-and-down rookie campaign. He has more interceptions than touchdowns and is completing below 60 percent of his passes. But those numbers are a bit deceiving, as he has played much better in recent weeks, arguably making his best start in the win over the Dolphins.
Seattle’s defense ranks second to last in the NFL in yards allowed, but it has some “bend but don’t break” characteristics. Its 23.1 points allowed per game ties for 14th in the league, so actually finding the end zone could prove to be a bit challenging.
