The most productive running back in Chiefs history is about to become a Jacksonville Jaguar.
Jamaal Charles will sign a one-year deal with the Jaguars on Tuesday. The news was first reported by the NFL Network.
Charles completed a nine-year stint with the Chiefs in 2016 as the franchise's career rushing leader with 7,260 yards. He was a two-time first-team All-Pro and a four-time Pro Bowler.
He was released by the Chiefs after the 2016 season and signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos for 2017. Charles appeared in 14 games last season as a Broncos reserve and rushed for 296 yards with one touchdown.
Charles, 31, was without a team in 2018 until Tuesday. The Jaguars, who lost at Arrowhead Stadium 30-14 on Sunday, are missing Leonard Fournette, who has been out with a hamstring injury. T.J. Yeldon started for Fournette in Sunday's game in Kansas City.
Charles' career average of 5.4 yards per carry is the highest average for a non-quarterback in the Super Bowl era. In 2012, he recorded three touchdown runs of 80 yards or longer.
