Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence: ‘I’ve just got to take better care of the ball’

Miscues and turnovers were the story of the game in Week 5 for the Jacksonville Jaguars and second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence was at the center of all of them.

He threw one interception, failed to secure a snap, was stripped on two sacks, and had a ball just plain fall out of his hand on a fourth down play. After the 29-21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Lawrence didn’t make any excuses for his play.

“I have to play better,” Lawrence said Sunday. “Our defense gave us a chance to win it at the end of the game. I’m just pissed I let those guys down and just had too many turnovers. Obviously it starts with me. All of them were me today so no one else to blame there.

“To let those guys down it’s disappointing, it felt like we had a chance to win that game and we did and the same thing at the end there. That’s really frustrating, we really felt like we started to click and get some drives going.”

In a Week 1 loss to the Washington Commanders, the Jaguars shot themselves in the foot with 13 penalties and a game-sealing interception in the final minute. Against the Eagles, the Jaguars turned the ball over five times.

“I’ve just got to take better care of the ball, got to tuck it,” Lawrence said. “There’s going to be things to learn from and obviously just really disappointed right now.”

Lawrence is the first player of the 21st century to lose four fumbles in an NFL game, according to ESPN Stats and Info.
