Jaguars trade RB James Robinson to Jets for conditional 2023 draft pick

The Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to trade running back James Robinson to the New York Jets for a conditional 2023 draft pick, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

The conditions: If Robinson gets to 600 rushing yards this season, the draft pick – which starts as a 2023 sixth-round pick – becomes a fifth-rounder.

Through the first seven games of 2022, Robinson has 340 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 81 rushes.

The Jaguars clearly saw Robinson, who is playing on the final year of his rookie deal, as an expendable player, especially with the emergence of Travis Etienne.

Robinson started five of seven games but has played only 215 snaps from scrimmage, including only 12 snaps this past week against the New York Giants. Etienne rushed 14 times for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Over 35 career games with the Jaguars, Robinson rushed 85 times for 2,177 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also caught 89 passes for 612 yards and four more scores. As an undrafted rookie in 2020, Robinson rushed for 1,070 yards and scored 10 total touchdowns.

In New York, Robinson will help the Jets replace rookie running back Breece Hall, who is out for the season after tearing his ACL.
