Jaguars sign second-round selection Jawaan Taylor

The Jacksonville Jaguars locked up their fifth rookie draft selection of the day as second-round pick Jawaan Taylor put pen to paper Thursday evening upon arriving for the team’s rookie minicamp. With him under contract, that now leaves two of the team’s 2019 draft picks to be signed in first-round pick Josh Allen and third-round selection Quincy Williams.

Taylor, 21, is a player many fans are aware of as the young offensive tackle played with the nearby Florida Gators. He was a player many thought the Jags should’ve taken with the No. 7 overall pick, however, they were fortunate enough to land him with the No. 35 selection after trading up three spots with the Oakland Raiders.

While with the Gators, Taylor managed to start in a total of 35 games, two of which came at the left tackle position during his sophomore season. With Jermey Parnell no longer with the team, the young rookie is expected to start at right tackle, but will have to battle the likes of Will Richardson and Cedrick Ogbuehi to win the job.

Per Over the Cap, Taylor’s contract is a four-year deal worth a little over $8.43 million. In Year 1 of the deal, he’ll earn over a little $1.42 million with his salary increasing throughout the following three years.
