Jaguars sign former Cowboys DL Datone Jones, waive Shane Bowman

The Jacksonville Jaguars made a few roster transactions after taking the field for Day 8 of organized team activities by signing veteran defensive lineman Datone Jones. To make room for the addition, they also waived defensive end Shane Bowman.

Jones, 28, was a former first-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2013 and spent four seasons with the team. Afterward, he spent 2017 with the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and San Francisco 49ers before coming to his most recent stop with the Dallas Cowboys (2017-18).

The veteran has battled injuries throughout his career, and they especially held him back in Dallas where a knee injury sidelined him for the opening two weeks of the 2018 regular season. As a result, he only took the field Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks, but sustained a hamstring injury afterward which sent him to injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Jones will enter his 2019 run with the Jags with a career total of 88 tackles and 10 sacks. At 6-foot-5, 285 pounds, he might get some looks as a rotational big end or three-technique, but ultimately time will tell.

As for Bowman, he signed with the Jags as aN undrafted rookie free-agent this season out of Washington University. Evidently, the Jags wanted to upgrade him with a veteran, which isn’t out of the ordinary when a team is heading into mandatory practices.
