Jaguars select San Jose State TE Josh Oliver with the No. 69 overall pick

The Jacksonville Jaguars made their second consecutive pick on the offensive side Friday after selecting San Jose tight end Josh Oliver with the No. 69 overall pick.

Oliver finished his senior season with 56 catches for 709 yards and four touchdowns, which was good for 12.7 yards a reception. Overall, he was able to accumulate a career total of 96 catches for 1,025 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, while starting in 36 of 49 games.

In 2018, he managed to land on the All-Mountain West team as a first-teamer and was named a co-captain for the Spartans. Statistically, it was also one of the best seasons by a tight end in San Jose State’s history, and many scouts believe he’s just scratching the surface.

Like offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor, Oliver fills a big need for the Jags who have been searching for a star tight end for quite some time. With newly signed quarterback Nick Foles and offensive coordinator John DeFilippo being huge advocates of the tight end position, it was a given the Jags would address the position in Day 1 or 2, and now fans can rest easy tonight.

Oliver will battle Geoff Swaim and James O’Shaughnessy for the Jags’ No. 1 tight end spot, which seems to be up for grabs at the moment.
