Jaguars select Murray State LB Quincy Williams with the No. 98 overall pick

The Jacksonville Jaguars took the podium one last time Friday night and selected Murray State linebacker Quincy Williams with the No. 98 overall pick, who is the brother of New York Jets first-round pick Quinnen Williams.

At 5-foot-10, 239 pounds, Williams led Murray State’s defense with 82 tackles on the 2018 season, which was also good for second in the Ohio Valley conference.

Per Jags general manager Dave Caldwell, Williams was a guy the Jags contemplated trading back for in the fourth-round, however, nothing materialized. That said, out of concern for a team taking him in round-four, the Jags pulled the trigger before Day 2 could close.

With Telvin Smith currently not in contact with the Jags, this move might be the team’s way of preparing for a defense without him, whether that’s in 2019 or later. However, if Smith is in the Jags’ long-term plans, Williams could provide depth for the Jags at linebacker and play on special teams as well.
