Jaguars rule out DE Yannick Ngakoue for Texans

The Houston Texans offensive line’s job got a little easier ahead of their Week 2 showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, the Jaguars ruled out defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, who is dealing with a hamstring injury. As a result, the Jaguars will be without one of their top pass rushers, who produced 9.5 sacks a season ago, the second-most on the team.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson sustained six sacks in the Week 1 30-28 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The sacks were tied with David Carr in 2002 and Tom Savage in 2017 for the most on Opening Day in Texans’ franchise history. In not having Ngakoue chasing Watson, it makes the Texans’ pass-blocking’s burden a little less difficult.

Sunday will be the first game of Ngakoue’s career that he will miss. The former 2016 third-round pick from Maryland has produced 3.5 sacks in his career against the Texans, the second-most against any AFC South opponent.
