Jaguars re-sign LS Matt Overton

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Thursday that veteran long-snapper Matt Overton will be returning next season after receiving a new contract.

Overton, 33, spent much of 2017 with the team after Carson Tinker went down with an ACL injury. He re-joined the team in October of last season when Tinker had more knee injury issues and remained with the Jags to the end of the season. Prior to that, he spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, Omaha Nighthawks (UFL), Florida Tuskers (UFL), Tri-Cities Fever (NIFL) and also had a few brief offseason stints with the Seattle Seahawks.

In 20 games with the Jaguars, Overton has helped out on punts and field goal attempts for newly extended kicker Josh Lambo. He’ll have a decent chance to beat out Tinker for the starting long-snapper job heading into the regular season, especially if Tinker continues to have injury problems in the preseason.
