Jaguars release QB Alex McGough

After releasing defensive lineman Datone Jones, cornerback Saivion Smith and receiver Terrelle Pryor, the Jacksonville Jaguars decided to part ways with another fan favorite in quarterback Alex McGough Friday morning.

We had McGough making the final 53-man roster in our last predictions, however, the move on the Jags’ part isn’t a shocker because he seems to be more of a developmental project. He saw the field for three of the Jags’ four preseason games and managed to go 11-of-29 (37.9 percent) for 60 yards, an interception and two rushing touchdowns in the process. He last saw the field during the fourth quarter of Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons and finished the night 6-of-12 for 31 yards and a touchdown, but fans pretty much saw the writing on the wall because he saw limited snaps in comparison to Gardner Minshew.

The Jags seemingly were high on McGough this offseason so may expect him to be named to their practice squad. As a Florida native from Tampa, he probably wouldn’t mind staying put after getting acclimated in Jacksonville this summer.
