Jaguars release a total of 5 to prepare for free-agency

With the new league year set to begin next week, many teams are making roster moves to put themselves in position to be able to sign some of the upcoming free agents.

The Jaguars have been rumored to be the front-runner for quarterback Nick Foles once free agency begins, and in order to make room for that potential signing (or any others), the franchise has announced they are set to part ways with a few players.

After announcing the release of Tashaun Gipson and Malik Jackson, the team also announced that they will be parting ways with offensive tackle Jeremy Parnell, long-snapper Carson Tinker, and running back Carlos Hyde.

Parnell, who was the team’s oldest player at 32, was a key part of the offensive line during his tenure in Jacksonville, only missing seven games in his four years. Tinker, an undrafted free agent out of Alabama, was with the Jaguars since 2013 serving as the team’s long snapper. He’s currently coming off a knee injury that ended his 2018 season and it appears the Jags will be using the newly signed Matt Overton in his place. Hyde, who the team traded for last year, was brought in to help T.J. Yeldon carry the load after Leonard Fournette was injured. There was talk of a possible trade for Hyde that failed to materialize.

The team frees up roughly $25 million in cap space after making these moves. Which is around the number that many people expect Nick Foles to sign for per year. Are you a fan of the moves? Let us know in the comments?
