Jaguars re-sign backup OL Tyler Shatley

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive line depth got a little stronger Friday after the team was able to retain veteran Tyler Shatley. And though the contract details have yet to be revealed, most would agree his return is a welcome addition as the Jags didn’t have a lot of experienced reserves in the department after losing Ereck Flowers to the Washington Redskins this month.

Shatley, 27, has been with the Jags since signing with them as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and has started in a total of 15 games. Seven of those starts came last year at center due to Brandon Linder being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. Last season also marked the third consecutive season that he’s played in all 16 regular season games.

Shatley has also started some games at guard throughout his tenure, which is another reason why most wanted him to return. While on the open market, he had one known visit with the Minnesota Vikings, however, it appears he wanted to continue building in Duval with the team he’s seen a lot of battles with. That definitely could be a smart move when considering he’s had to start at least four times in the last three seasons.
