Jaguars PFF grades: Best and worst performers vs. Bills

The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t blow out the Buffalo Bills in Week 5, but the 25-20 win in London may have been the most complete performance of the team’s 2023 so far.

A Jacksonville offense that previously shot itself in the foot made a few of the same mistakes, but still managed 474 yards of total offense against a Bills defense that hadn’t allowed 400 in a game prior. The Jaguars defense kept Buffalo to seven points through the first 55 minutes of the game before allowing a couple frantic touchdown drives near the end of the fourth quarter.

It was the most impressive win of the season for the 3-2 Jaguars, but which players stood out in the victory? The folks at Pro Football Focus went over the game with a fine tooth comb to grade every player’s performance.

These are the Jaguars players who had the best and worst showings in the win, according to PFF:

5 highest grades on offense

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
  1. WR Calvin Ridley: 76.9
  2. QB Trevor Lawrence: 75.8
  3. WR Christian Kirk: 69.5
  4. LG Walker Little: 68.1 (11 snaps)
  5. TE Luke Farrell: 67.2

The combination of Ridley and Lawrence was the offense’s saving grace. The duo connected seven times for 122 yards and earned the top two grades for the Jaguars offense on Sunday.

5 lowest grades on offense

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
  1. RB Tank Bigsby: 40.1
  2. RT Anton Harrison: 46.5
  3. C Luke Fortner: 46.9
  4. LG Tyler Shatley: 47.9
  5. WR Jamal Agnew: 49.0

The offensive line didn’t fare particularly well against the talented Bills front and it only got worse when Walker Little exited early with a knee injury. The trio of Harrison, Fortner, and Shatley were credited with allowing six combined pressures.

5 highest grades on defense

Peter van den Berg-USA TODAY Sports
  1. S Rayshawn Jenkins: 80.2
  2. CB Tre Herndon III: 72.3
  3. OLB Travon Walker: 71.5
  4. DB Antonio Johnson: 65.5
  5. OLB Josh Allen: 65.4

Jenkins earned the Jaguars’ highest run defense grade (84.8) and allowed only one reception for one yard when he was matched up in coverage. A missed tackle that resulted in a mediocre 61.8 tackling grade may have been the only thing that separated Jenkins from one of the most stellar grades in the NFL on Sunday.

5 lowest grades on defense

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
  1. NT Folorunso Fatukasi: 42.7
  2. LB Chad Muma: 46.3
  3. S Andre Cisco: 46.4
  4. CB Darious Williams: 51.0
  5. OLB K’Lavon Chaisson: 52.6

Fatukasi recorded a hurry against Josh Allen, but finished with a team-worst 46.0 run defense grade. The absence of Devin Lloyd also continues to be felt in the weekly growing pains of Muma.

5 other notables

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
  1. OLB Yasir Abdullah: 65.9
  2. DE Tyler Lacy: 59.8
  3. RB Travis Etienne Jr: 65.4
  4. LT Cam Robinson: 58.9
  5. WR Zay Jones: 63.4

It was a good day for the Jaguars’ defensive rookies. Antonio Johnson was a top five defensive performer in 10 snaps in his NFL debut, Abdullah recorded a hit on Josh Allen in only four snaps on the field, and Lacy was the Jaguars’ highest graded defensive lineman during his eight defensive snaps.
