Jaguars officially release QB Blake Bortles

The Jacksonville Jaguars officially released veteran quarterback Blake Bortles Wednesday, making him a free agent for the offseason. The move is one that has been long expected and the Jags’ signing of former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles pretty much made it the inevitable.

Bortles, 26, was drafted in the 2014 NFL Draft by general manager Dave Caldwell to be the Jaguars’ franchise signal-caller, but unfortunately struggled to find consistency throughout his career. Still, he’s a player with plenty of talent and shouldn’t have any trouble finding new suitors for his services although it initially may be as a backup.

Bortles entered this offseason with a career completion percentage of 59.3 (2,632-of-1,561) for 17,646 passing yards, 103 touchdowns and 75 interceptions over the course of 73 starts. He acquired 13 of those starts this season while completing 60.3 percent of his passes for 2,718 passing yards and 13 touchdowns.

Clearly, the veteran quarterback is a player who will be missed and I think we speak for most Jaguars fans when we say we wish the B.O.A.T. the best and hope he thrives wherever he lands.
