Jacksonville’s 20-game losing streak, the longest for any NFL team in nearly 50 years, finally came to an end on Sunday with an emotional win over the Miami Dolphins in London. Kicker Matthew Wright drilled two kicks from 50+, the latter of which gave the team the win as time expired, and the Jags could finally celebrate in the locker room for the first time since Week 1 of 2020.
That win didn’t just move them to 1-5 on the season, but it also sent them up a few rungs from the bottom spot on the USA TODAY Sports NFL power rankings from Nate Davis. The team has spent the last three weeks at No. 32, but now it’s all the way up to No. 28.
The Jags are 4-4 (.500) in the United Kingdom … and 174-240 (.420) in the United States. London calling, Mr. Khan?
Relocation dig aside, the Jags seemed to have earned a bit of respect from their win over the Dolphins (who sit one spot behind them at No. 29). The only other one-win team that ranks above Jacksonville is the New York Jets, who had a bye on Sunday.
The Jaguars still have a ton of problems, and while the AFC South is arguably the worst division in football, contending for the playoffs remains exceedingly unlikely. But with a rapidly improving quarterback and a win under their belt, they certainly don’t look like the worst team in football right now.
