Jaguars’ Jalen Ramsey: Texans QB Deshaun Watson ‘one of the best’

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey has never been one to shy away from making, somewhat controversial statements about fellow NFL players.

In 2018, he made a few scathing indictments of some of the league’s quarterbacks, including Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen who he described as “trash” and then Baltimore Ravens starter Joe Flacco who he said “sucks.”

However, Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has always been in Ramsey’s good books, in fact he once described him as “the league MVP in a couple years.” And it would seem that Ramsey’s opinion of the former Clemson Tiger hasn’t changed.

“I’ve been very complimentary of Deshaun before when I talked about quarterbacks, and I said that he was going to be one of the best in the league and I stand by that,” said Ramsey on Thursday, ahead of their match-up against the Texans on Sunday.

“I think he is emerging as one of the best in the league. He had an amazing game the other night (versus New Orleans), led their offense. I’m biased, too. That’s a good friend of mine. I talked to him last night, crazy.”

On Monday, Watson completed 20 of 30 passes attempted for 268 yards and three touchdowns. Add in the 40 yards he had rushing and another TD, and Ramsey’s describing his performance as “amazing” seems apt.

Whether or not Watson does indeed end up a league MVP is yet to be seen, but if the offensive line can hold their own this season and Watson picks up where he left off in Week 1, who’s to say 2019 couldn’t be his year?
