Jaguars defense forces two takeaways, played physical in 24-20 loss to Green Bay

The Jaguars enjoyed a few end zone celebrations Sunday that included a Lambeau leap by receiver Keelan Cole.

And their defense made its share of big hits and big plays.

They were two-touchdown underdogs, and not much was expected to be different than their previous seven losses in a row.

Yet the Jaguars gave the Packers all they could handle before losing 24-20 on a cold, windy Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field to drop their eighth consecutive game, the longest losing streak of Coach Doug Marrone's tenure in Jacksonville.

Green Bay (7-2) has veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and he was able to offset a Jaguars' defensive unit that performed better than expected.

Trailing 20-17, Rodgers directed a 75-yard, seven-play drive that ended with his 6-yard touchdown catch to receiver Davante Adams for the Packers go-ahead score.

Behind rookie quarterback Jake Luton, the Jaguars' final two drives stalled. With less than 1:34 remaining, Luton, earning his second consecutive start in place of injured Gardner Minshew, was sacked twice. On the final offensive play on a fourth down, Luton's pass intended for running back James Robinson fell incomplete.

Luton wasn't as efficient as he was last week in his first career start against Houston when he passed for 304 yards. Against the Packers, Luton was 18 of 35 for 169 yards with a touchdown and interception.

Trailing 20-17, Rodgers directed a 75-yard, seven-play drive that ended with his 6-yard touchdown catch to receiver Davante Adams for the Packers go-ahead score. Rodgers ended the game passing for 325 yards and two touchdowns.

The Jaguars (1-8) came in Sunday allowing 418 yards and 30.9 points per game. However, the Jaguars' defense helped set up their third-quarter scoring drive that tied the score at 17. On Green Bay's first play after halftime, Rodgers completed a 24-yard pass to Adams, but cornerback CJ Henderson knocked the ball out of his hands. Linebacker Myles Jack recovered the ball at the Green Bay 32.

Four plays later, the Jaguars were celebrating Cole's 12-yard touchdown catch. Earlier during the drive, Robinson scored on a 16-yard touchdown run around left end, but the play was called back after tight end James O'Shaughnessy was flagged for offensive holding.

Late in the third quarter when Green Bay had moved into Jacksonville territory, the Jaguars forced a takeaway when cornerback Sidney Jones picked off Rodgers. Rodgers came in with 24 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

Early on, the Jaguars made it difficult for Rodgers to get a rhythm going. The Jaguars forced the Packers to punt on their three drives as they combined for only 47 yards.

Throughout the game, the Jaguars secondary stayed in zone coverage. But they were physical on tackles after catches, and the defensive front attacked frequently and occasionally got pressure on Rodgers.
