Jaguars bring back TE James O’Shaughnessy

The Jacksonville Jaguars were able to retain one of their free agents in guard A.J. Cann last week and now another offensive player will be returning in backup tight end James O’Shaughnessy. The team announced that the veteran would be re-signing with them after testing the market and coming to the conclusion that Jacksonville presented the best opportunity for him.

O’Shaughnessy, 27, will be returning to Jacksonville for his third consecutive season after initially joining the Jaguars in September of 2017 when he was claimed off waivers from the New England Patriots. Prior to that, he spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, who drafted him in the fifth-round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He also played with Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles while there during the 2016 season and told Jaguars.com that he was excited to reunite with the veteran.

“I know how talented he is, and I also know how as a teammate he kind of brings the locker room together,” O’Shaughnessy said about Foles. “I’m truly excited to get this opportunity to get another year to play with him.”

During his two seasons with the Jaguars, O’Shaughnessy managed to accumulate 38 catches for 363 receiving yards and a touchdown. As for his career stats, he’ll enter 2019 with a career total of 46 receptions for 449 receiving yards and the one aforementioned touchdown.

Prior to making his decision to return O’Shaughnessy’s only reported visit was with the Pittsburgh Steelers, though he said there were others. However, at the end of the day O’Shaughnessy went with his heart and felt it was right to return to the team that he had built a two-year bond with.
