Jaguars add former LB Tony Gilbert to coaching staff

A few days ago we reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars would be adding former 2013 draft pick Denard Robinson to their coaching staff, but it appears he won’t be the only former player joining Doug Marrone. The team also announced that they will be adding former linebacker Tony Gilbert, who played for the team from 2003-06 under Jack Del Rio.

Gilbert was initially selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth-round of the 2003 draft out of the University of Georgia, however, he ended up with the Jags later that year. After his run in Jacksonville, he spent some time with the Atlanta Falcons (2008-09) before briefly returning to Jacksonville in 2010  and eventually retiring. He ultimately finished his career with 68 career tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.

Afterward, Gilbert began coaching, making his most notable stops with his alma mater, Georgia, then made stops in Auburn, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Central Florida as an assistant. Now, he’ll be an assistant coach for the position he once played and will join head linebackers coach Mark Collins, who will be entering his fourth season. The two will get to work with several notable names on the team, including Joe Schobert and Myles Jack.
