Jaguar Land Rover announces it is to restart production at Halewood following UK lockdown

Car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover has announced its Merseyside plant will re-start production on June 8.

According to the firm, the Halewood plant's reopening will be a "phased ramp-up", with one shift in operation.

A company spokeswoman said the move comes as other countries emerge from the Covid-19 lockdown and vehicle sales begin to recover, with customers "slowly returning" to its showrooms.

More shifts will be added once demand grows, she said.

She added: "The health and wellbeing of our employees is our first priority. We are developing robust protocol and guidelines to support the safety of our colleagues at work.

"We have adopted strict social distancing measures across our business and are currently evaluating a number of different measures to ensure we protect and reassure our workforce when more people begin to return to work.

"We continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and follow the guidance of all relevant authorities in the markets in which we operate."
