A little Friday afternoon on a Wednesday afternoon: the Kazakh government might (quite understandably) object to Borat's not-entirely-sympathetic one-man tourism-wrecking campaign, but at least it seems to be generating some curiosity about Kazakhstan.
Reuters reported today that Kazakhstan's genuine state news agency Kazinform saw web traffic double in the week before the film premiere, thanks to a prominent web link on the Borat movie site.
Kazinform didn't seem entirely impressed, having already threatened legal action last year that forced Sacha Baron Cohen to stop using the Kazakh domain, .kz. A spokesperson said she was not aware of the link, but, given its context on the Borat movie site, maybe they don't want that kind of traffic anyway...
YouTube is awash with deleted scenes, copies of old Borat clips and sections of TV interviews. If you're not Boratted out by all that, I urge you to experience the anti-design delight that is Borat's official MySpace page for a little light relief. Is niice!
