Jags WR Tavon Austin placed on injured reserve

If Jacksonville Jaguars fans were hoping to see what highlight moments Tavon Austin could provide in the regular season, they will now have to put those plans on hold. On Thursday, the team announced that the veteran speedster was placed on injured reserve for the quad injury he sustained at practice on Aug. 27.

During training camp, the Jags had multiple injuries they were dealing with at receiver and signed Austin on Aug. 6 out of free agency to bring more explosiveness to the offense. It didn’t take long for him to start making an impact as he started making catches and receiving notable snaps the first time he practiced.

Austin’s success eventually translated to the Jags’ preseason games against Cleveland and New Orleans and he was able to accumulate eight receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown in those two games. When considering this and the praise Urban Meyer has showered Austin with, it’s a good chance he’ll be returning back to the active roster after the 21-day IR window passes.

With Austin’s designation to injured reserve the Jags now have 52 of their 53 active roster spots filled. The spot previously held by Austin could be filled when the Jags officially sign free-agent tight end Jacob Hollister, who NFL Network reported is set to join the team.
