Jags upped WR Keelan Doss’ salary to prevent him returning to Raiders

When Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Keelan Doss woke up this morning he probably wasn’t expecting to get a raise, but somehow that was the case. As a result of receiver Antonio Brown being released by the Oakland Raiders, the organization called the Jags’ front office in efforts to bring Doss back. However, the Jags thought so highly of the practice squad receiver that they upped his salary to the rookie minimum to retain him.

As most are aware, Doss signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent this year and was one of the main storylines of “Hard Knocks” while there because of Jon Gruden’s infatuation with him and his ties to Oakland as a native of Alameda. However, due to strong depth at the receiver position, the Raiders were forced to waive him despite a very impressive preseason in which he caught 17 passes for 162 receiving yards and a touchdown. The Jags then snagged him for their practice squad and the rest is history.

Doss later confirmed the report by taking to Twitter and stating that “Life works in mysterious ways.” With a salary of $495K it seems though he may see a promotion in the future, which will be interesting when considering the Jags’ history with finding gem undrafted free agents.
